We all have some relationship to money. How we relate to money is how money will relate to us. Are you afraid to talk about money? Or do you have some other kind of fear related to money? What is your money story? In this article, we will dive into our relationship with money and how we can change it to feel more abundant in our lives.

What is a money story?
How do you feel when you talk about money, receive money, or give it away? Do you feel some tightness somewhere? Do you feel stressed? Frustrated? That is your cue to what your story about money is. Whether it’s conscious or unconscious, you have a story you tell yourself about money—a belief.
How do we figure out our own money story?
First, you have to see what you feel when money is in your focus. If you feel scared when you talk or think about money, you might feel that it’s never enough. You might have a story related to scarcity. That no matter how much you have, you still feel it’s missing.
How did your parents relate to money? When money was a subject at home, what did your parents think or feel? What did they tell you? Did they tell you that they don’t have enough when you asked for something? These experiences shape us early in life and affect our future in how we treat and relate to money.

My money story.
I will share my unconscious money story, and the conscious one I’m integrating.
When I grew up, my mother was raising me by herself for the most part, and she was struggling in different jobs, and her income was very low at times, so most of my childhood was very limited in resources. So when I asked for something, I almost always heard that we can’t afford it. That shaped my relationship to money in a way that I get scared when I receive money, to lose it, and am afraid to give it away. I also think it’s difficult to earn enough, and that the situation I’m in is hard to change.
How to rewrite the story?
We have to create a conscious story of how we want to relate to money. How could you change your story to money, to make it feel good? To remove the stress related to money? I would suggest that if you have a negative feeling about money, you can rewrite it in exactly the opposite way of how you are relating to money. I will give you my example under.

My conscious money story
Money is abundant, I see it everywhere, and I can afford to live the life I want. It’s easy to make money, and I can afford to give it away. I can afford to help others, and I give it away freely, without any problems. Money is my friend, my helper, and I welcome it with an open heart. There is no stress related to money, because it is my helper, my assistant.
So here, as you can see, I wrote the exact opposite of my unconscious money story, to make it conscious. So that I can relate to it in a good way, and see it as it is. It is supposed to be our tool, not our master.
